The Global Health Solidarity Project hosted an interactive workshop, ‘Making Solidarity Work: Ethical principles for Operationalising Solidarity in Global Health Practice’ at the Oxford Global Health and Bioethics International Conference 2026.
Bioethicists, researchers and other participants critically engaged with the draft solidarity principles, drawing on diverse professional and contextual perspectives. The participants offered rich perspectives, thoughtful questions and practical insights on how solidarity can provide meaningful ethical guidance for global health practice.
Through facilitated small-group discussions, participants reflected on the clarity, language and practical applicability of the proposed principles. Other broader concerns like the potential conflation in the use of terms ‘principles’ and ‘values’ within global health context were also explored.
Participants also considered how the principles could guide decision-making across different areas of global health and identified priorities for further refinement.
Feedback from the workshop will be considered alongside insights from webinars and other project dialogues to refine the principles and support their practical use in global health decision-making and institutional practice.
